House Rule #1 for ICONS, the SuperHero RPG

by cmdrcody on May 7th, 2011 at 7:26 PM
Posted In: Hobby

I love ICONS. It’s a lot of fun (Hell, it is basically SuperHero FUDGE!!), but it has a few idiosyncrasies that make my head spin.

#1   Initiative

In ICONS its very “fudgey”. Kinda, “You all really go at once. The first to go, goes, then everyone else goes…”

That would make everyone at my table nuts. Me included.

So, instead, lets try this…

List characters in a conflict by their Awareness, then in order of Coordination in case of a tie. Apply the following Adders to the totals along with a normal die roll.

+1 for Leadership (+2 for Expert, +3 for Mastery)

+1 for every two points in Danger Sense, Fast Attack, Super-Senses, and Super-Speed.

Then count down from the highest score in order.

Paper Model: The Old Trailer

by cmdrcody on April 30th, 2011 at 9:10 PM

Wow. This looks nice!

Where better to fend off a horde of ravenous Zombies than an old trailer park, somewhere in the Mid West.

How many of these will I need? 10 maybe 15…

First the Cutting:

Check out McroTactix stuff here on DriveThruRPG

Compact Combat & Budget Battlefield with their RPG Simply Roleplaying

MICROTACTIX

Cool stuff.

Wednesday Night Gaming: Castle of the Mad Arch Mage

by cmdrcody on April 28th, 2011 at 3:15 PM

Castles & Crusades (bastardized version).

Our intrepid adventurers:

  • Barry – Human Thief (Level 5)
  • Barry – Dwarven Paladin of Ilmater (Level 1)
  • Paul – Worst Fighter Ever (Level 6)
  • Shawn – Worst Wizard Ever (Level 4)
  • Eric – Neutral (with Evil tendencies) Druid/Assassin (Level 5/0)
  • Prentice – Wizard of Ill Repute (Level 2)
  • Bert, the Shield Mate (Human Man at Arms, Level 0)
  • Meatshield, Level 0 Kobold Torch Bearer

Last night Prentice and Eric couldn’t join us, so we continued on our merry way through Level 2, the North West Section.

Traps and Wandering monsters abounded. They encountered a group of floating bubbles that came toward them in the lower passage ways. Paul used his shield to batter them back only to have them stick together and encompass the whole passageway. The wizard determines them to be a form of Geletaneous Ooze and the thief promptly burns through with fiery arrows.

Searching the pile they come across a Preiapt of Health and some magical arrows +1.

Barry’s Dwarf and Paul’s Fighter were caught in a spiked trap and nearly killed, as the party continued to the west to the central areas of the map.

They found a magical Lute and magical Tuning Fork, which they immediately used to summon a Earth Elemental to their side. A lucky roll caused the creature to attack immediately, but Barry offered to pay 200 XP to have a re-roll (HOUSERULE).

This brought the creature under Barry’s control and the Thief deiced to ride it around like a pony (His feet hurt).

After finding a door they couldn’t open, the party had the Elemental rip the door off, only to have it impaled by a Balistae Bolt. Paul immediately decided to begin dis-assembly of mechanism to take back to his castle.

Awarded 475XP (more than I should’ve…) to much shouting of “Cheap bastard”!

All in all, a good nite!
